In response to reports on the US Secretary of Defense’s claims that China is building a military force specifically dedicated to defeating the US, that Chinese hypersonic missiles “can take out 10 US aircraft carriers in the first 20 minutes of a conflict,” and that China has won every war game simulated by the Pentagon, and responding to remarks by the head of US Indo-Pacific Command claiming that China is outproducing the US on warships and can deny US air superiority in the first island chain, Zhang Xiaogang, a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson, said at a regular press conference on Thursday that we have a clear understanding of our own development, and we hope the US side does not suffer from “persecution complex” or use others as an excuse.

Some individuals in the US always view the Chinese military through tinted lenses and hype up the so-called “China military threat.” This is precisely the obstacle currently impeding interactions between the Chinese and US militaries, the spokesperson said.
