Following reports of an arson attempt last Saturday, at the Suriname Embassy, where Molotov cocktails were hurled at the Embassy’s Queenstown building, yet another similar incident is said to have occurred early Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle confirmed that the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) did respond to a report of a possible arson attempt at the Anira and New Market streets building that houses the Dutch speaking country’s embassy.
He said he did not at the time have the full details of the incident. The incident is said to have occurred at approximately 01:30hrs on Wednesday, and is said to have caused minor damages to the property, with damage to ome phones lines being the severity of the destruction, according to one media house.
The police however have since suspiciously denied knowledge of the incident. Regional Commander Phillip Azore when contacted last Wednesday after said he had no report of the incident, and had no knowledge of any attack on the Embassy. However according to reports, while the police has a report on the incident and an investigation has been launched, a mix up may have been caused by the building being labelled a “dwelling house” instead of being identified as the embassy.
Commander Azore confirmed that there was an incident at a “dwelling house” in Queenstown, but said it was a few doors down from the Embassy.
