The Institute for Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD) has expressed deep concern over allegations of harassment and victimisation involving former employees of Western Logistics, Jeremy Dundas and Alejandro David. The two individuals have come forward with troubling claims that both the company’s management and members of the Guyana Police Force were involved in intimidating and pursuing them following their termination.
Dundas and David allege that Western Logistics management engaged police officers to target them, further complicating their exit from the company. The accusations also extend to Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, who is accused of having ties to the company and engaging in inappropriate behavior towards staff, including verbal abuse.
“One of the former employees claimed that the minister would come in and ‘cuss up’ staff, creating an uncomfortable and hostile environment,” the statement from IFAAD reads. The Institute noted that these actions are particularly concerning given the public expectation that government officials maintain the highest standards of professionalism and respect.
While Minister Indar has denied any involvement with Western Logistics, IFAAD has called for an independent investigation into the allegations to ensure transparency and uphold public trust in government institutions. The organisation has also urged Minister Indar to resign immediately, stating that the gravity of the accusations warrants further scrutiny.
Additionally, IFAAD called on the Guyana Police Force to clarify its role in the situation, expressing alarm at the potential misuse of law enforcement to settle private or corporate disputes. The Institute emphasised that the use of the police to intimidate or suppress individuals is an abuse of power.
IFAAD offered its full support to Dundas and David, consistent with human rights, as well as all individuals facing discrimination and harassment in the workplace. The organisation urged Western Logistics to take the allegations seriously and address them transparently to maintain public confidence in the company and its operations.
