Oldest COVID-19 survivor and Palms resident turns 106

Zorie De Mattos, the resident of the Palms Elderly Care Facility, who is Guyana’s oldest survivor of the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) on Friday celebrated her 106th birth anniversary.

Back in June 2020, De Mattos was deemed the country’s oldest COVID-19 survivor.
On Thursday, she was surrounded by her care givers and was the recipient of a hamper filled with her favourite snacks compliments of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

Subject Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud, congratulated the centenarian and said “Ms De Mattos’ longevity is a testament of our commitment to quality care for the elderly. Happy birthday, you are one feisty woman.”
Ms. De Mattos has been a resident at the Palms since 1969.
