On October 15, 2024, Nickesha Bacchus, a determined young woman hailing from Paradise on the East Coast of Demerara, Guyana, celebrated a significant milestone as her application to practise law in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana was officially granted. This achievement is not just a personal victory but a testament to her determination, unwavering faith, and the support of her family, who has been instrumental in her journey.

Reflecting on her journey to this moment, Nickesha acknowledges the challenges she faced, “If I were to claim that I knew precisely how my studies would be financed, I would be lying,” she admits.

Despite moments of uncertainty, Bacchus held onto her faith, believing that God was orchestrating a miracle in her life. “I didn’t always see the path ahead, but I felt God’s promise in my heart,” she said. As fate would have it, help arrived just when she needed it most.

She attributes much of her success to the love and encouragement of her family, especially her mother. “The Nickesha you see today is not merely a product of my efforts; I owe my achievements to a supportive community that rallied around me,” she states.

She expresses deep gratitude to her mother, who has been her biggest supporter, and anchor, and to her siblings for their constant encouragement. “Your belief in me has made all the difference,” she says, extending heartfelt thanks to all who supported her throughout her journey.

HER LAW JOURNEY

Nickesha pursued a degree in social work at the University of Guyana. Further, Bacchus read for her LLB at the university of Guyana and recently she graduated from Eugene Dupuch Law School after completing her  Legal Education Certificate (LEC).

As Nickesha embarks on this new chapter in her legal career, she reflects on the long nights spent studying and the moments of doubt that threatened to overwhelm her. “The journey to this moment serves as a perfect illustration of how some journeys are only truly appreciated upon reflection,” she added. With determination and grace, she has emerged stronger from every setback.

Nickesha’s story is a powerful reminder that while individuals may set their own plans, embracing the reality that God’s plans often surpass our own can lead to unexpected blessings. “God doesn’t simply call the qualified; rather, He qualifies those whom He calls,” she emphasises.

As she prepares to serve in her new role as a lawyer, Nickesha is committed to upholding justice and making meaningful contributions to the legal profession. She prays for humility and guidance as she walks in God’s purpose for her life, never forgetting the humble beginnings from which she came.

In closing, Nickesha reflects on the importance of gratitude: “To everyone who has supported me along this journey, thank you. Your belief in me has made all the difference.” As she steps into this new chapter, she carries with her not only the skills of a lawyer but also the love and support of those who have believed in her every step of the way.

Village Voice News joins with Nickesha Bacchus’  friends and loved ones in wishing her all success in this new chapter of her life.
