By Mark DaCosta- A senior officer in the Guyana Police Force has come under scrutiny for allegedly providing key information to suspects involved in the abduction of 28-year-old Joshua David, according to a report in Kaieteur News. The officer, whose name has not been released, is accused of leaking police intelligence to wanted men in an effort to protect himself from implication in the crime.

Kaieteur News reports that according to sources familiar with the case, the officer allegedly shared updates on the police investigation with the suspects and advised them to surrender, warning that increased pressure from investigators was putting him at risk. It is suspected that his connection to the suspects might extend beyond a professional level, as investigators believe the officer has a personal acquaintance with them. However, it is not yet clear whether the police have solid evidence to confirm his involvement, though recent developments suggest the officer may hold more knowledge about David’s abduction than has been revealed.

The revelations come as a blow to the ongoing investigation, which has been struggling to make significant headway. Police have been conducting searches, particularly in the East Coast Demerara backlands, but have yet to locate David or uncover conclusive leads.

In the meantime, the suspects, believed to be behind the abduction, have been gradually turning themselves in. On Friday, four men, identified as Wayne Barker (also known as ‘Onnie’), Aaron Alleyne (‘Cats’), Davantai Mars (‘Sharkie’), and Damien Barlow (‘Dangles’), surrendered to law enforcement. This follows the earlier surrender of two other suspects, Alpha Poole and Osafo Peters, who were remanded in custody for their alleged involvement in the case.

The abduction of Joshua David has sent shockwaves throughout Georgetown, not only due to the crime itself but also the potential breach of trust within the ranks of the police force. David, who is commonly known as ‘Bricks’, was taken by a group of men on the night of September 26 while he was on Main Street, Georgetown. Eyewitnesses captured the kidnapping on camera, which showed David being forcefully dragged into a vehicle near a popular Chinese restaurant.

David’s abduction is believed to be linked to a deadly drive-by shooting on D’Urban Street, which occurred shortly before his disappearance. Two people were killed and several others injured in that incident, with authorities suspecting that David’s kidnapping may have been an act of retaliation or tied to the ongoing conflicts related to that shooting.

Although police have not yet publicly confirmed a direct connection between the officer and the suspects, the allegations, if proven true, could have far-reaching implications. The idea that a senior officer could be involved in such a serious breach of protocol raises concerns about internal corruption within the police force at a time when the public’s trust is crucial in solving this high-profile case.

The investigation into Joshua David’s disappearance continues, but the longer the case remains unresolved, the more pressure mounts on authorities to deliver results. David’s family has been vocal in their plea for the public’s assistance, holding candlelight vigils and asking for information that could lead to his safe return. Meanwhile, the public is left to grapple with the disturbing possibility that those entrusted with the safety of citizens may, in fact, be undermining the very investigations they are responsible for conducting.

As the nation waits for further developments, the case of Joshua David serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by our police force and the broader concerns surrounding accountability and justice in our country. The authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the case or the officer’s possible involvement to come forward, as the search for answers continues.
