Maryresa Jameer, a vibrant 27-year-old, transformed her passion for culinary creativity into a thriving business. Jameer hails from Blairmont, West Bank Berbice and is a mother of one. Her journey began like many others, with a blend of necessity and ingenuity, she found herself constantly experimenting with new recipes to satisfy herself and her family’s tastes. Little did she know, these kitchen experiments would sow the seeds of a thriving business venture.

The spark came when her homemade snacks, pastries and desserts received rave reviews from friends, family and neighbours. Encouraged by their praise and fueled by her own entrepreneurial spirit, Maryresa saw an opportunity to turn her culinary passion, which she started about 3 years ago, into a profession, launching Becky’s treats.

“I enjoy cooking and baking and I love to see the smile it puts on people’s faces,” Jameer told this publication.

With limited startup capital but abundant enthusiasm, she started small. She refined her recipes, worked her baking techniques, and researched local food regulations. Armed with a clear vision and a strong commitment to quality, she began working from her home kitchen, specialising in cakes, pastries and baked goods. Word-of-mouth soon spread about Jameer’s, and her customer base expanded. During the Christmas season, Jameer bakes sponge cake, black cake and fruit cake as well as cross buns on every Good Friday.

“Put God first in everything you do and he will make a way. Everyday won’t be the same, though sometimes, it may get hard and you might feel all is lost, don’t give up,” is Maryresa’s advice to youths and budding entrepreneurs.
