As an individual, I have commenced the week with a positive, committing every aspect of my life to the Creator.

The week is almost coming to an end, and we have witnessed several uneventful activities. As a nation, whose society is made up of complexities and small in population size, we should be concerned and questioned, whether the systems are working or not?

Life is a precious gift from God, and many choose different pathways to complete their journey here on earth. I will never question anyone why they have made X or Y their choice. They are NOT accountable to me, but God.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindyha Persaud

Over the past days our society has been grappling with unfortunate circumstances such as:

✅ six-year-old boy battling for his life, with a bullet in head.

✅ Two brothers stabbed to death.

✅ 14 years old who is in state care died by drowning at the National Aquatic Center.

✅ sex worker shot to death

✅ robberies on the increased

✅ accidents continue to occur on our roads.

and the list continues!

It is quite disturbing with all that is happening in our society today, the silence from all quarters is troubling. We are already a small population, but to have our people died the way many have met their demise, should be of concern to those in authority.

Issues like these ought to be debated at the highest level in our society. However, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP) seems unbothered. Since the National Budget was passed on February 2. 2024, we met on the 9th May, 2024, 17th May, 2024 and the 8th July, 2024. These sittings were NOT to discuss the aforementioned issues, but to debate amendments to existing laws.

Once there are regular sittings of the National Assembly, Members of Parliament will be able to table motions to address these social ills in our society and find common resolves. It is TIME leaders show care and compassion for our people. This should not be demonstrated during a pre-Elections or an Elections year. The people elect a government to work in their interest, and to make their lives better.

Many of the social issues comes under the microscope of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security. We have hundreds of social workers in our nation, who can assist the Ministry with its mandate. What is Minister Dr. Vindyha Persaud doing? Ma’am, you are too silent.

I hope that at his one man press conference Thursday at 14hrs, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo (aka, Mr. Know it all), would have informed the nation how his fourth term administration intends to address these issues, rather than holding a three hours plus press conference to attack his political opponents and spread his usual propaganda.

I believe it is time we stand TOGETHER as a nation and decry the wrongs that have perpetuated our land.

I believe it is TIME we recommit our country to God for his divine intervention.

Guyana needs JESUS more than ever.

May I take this opportunity in extending my commiseration to the bereaved families and those who are overcoming from an unfortunate experience.
