According to reports, at about 11:00h the child, identified as Daishaun Doris, was at home with his 21-year-old sister Huldah Petrie, a teacher of the Ann’s Grove New Developers School, when he proceeded to the yard from the upper flat of his home. About 15 minutes after the child left the home, his sister called out to him but received no answer.

At about 11:15h, the woman’s younger cousin, Amaiyah Pellew, informed her that the child was laying in the yard. The woman went to the yard where she saw her brother’s motionless body with froth protruding his mouth and an electric drill in his right hand.
She raised an alarm and her aunt along with neighbours rushed to her assistance. The child was placed in a taxi and taken to the Dr CC Nicholas Hospital where he pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

Police said that the area where the child’s body was found had moist mud and an examination of his body showed that he received burns on his outer right foot.

“A yellow drop cord was seen running from the upstairs down the front steps. This drop cord will be used to operate the washing machine which is under the house. The cord was plugged into an electrical outlet in the upper flat,” Police said in a statement.
Investigations revealed that the electric drill is usually stationed in a small store room in the yard.
The drill and drop cord was seized and lodged at station.
Investigations are continuing.
