Why did the Republicans force “democracy” on Guyana and try to deny it in the USA?

Dear Editor

In a recent letter in one of Guyana’s dailies today’s someone wrote “US Republicans are behaving in the exact atrocious manner that APNU+AFC did.” This would be laughable, but it is a serious matter. Firstly, it was the Republicans that installed the PPP/C in power. Does this writer not feel ashamed attacking his patrons? It was Pompeo, a Republican secretary of state that threatened Granger with “step aside”. It was Sarah Lynch, a Republican Trump appointee who attacked the GECOM process. Does this writer think that Guyanese are idiots? Does he think that Guyanese are blind? It was the Republicans that gave the election to your beloved party.

Guyana Leads The Caribbean With Fake Ph.Ds

This is an excerpt from a letter written by Randy Mangru. “(Thank God it didn’t) It should be noted that it was the Donald Trump administration (The Republican Party) that stepped up overwhelmingly and pressed for free and fair elections in Guyana. The Government of the United States of America (Donald Trump administration) was the first country that imposed sanctions on those responsible for undermining Guyana’s electoral process. I must commend and thank the United States of America Ambassador, H.E. Sarah Ann Lynch, for standing up with us (Guyanese) on the frontline of our fight for democracy to prevail in our beloved country Guyana.”

The letter writer is either disingenuous, blind or just working for the PPP/C misinformation machine. We are not buying it. I know that this is an attempt to discredit the petition that has just begun.

There is as much similarity between the APNU/AFC and the Republicans as there is between water and oil. The Republicans are more akin to the PPP/C. They do not believe in science. They opened the country during the epidemic because they care more about business than people. They believe in the philosophy of superiority of “one race to another”. They see nothing wrong in extrajudicial killings of black people.

Now for the elections. The USA elections were the safest in history says the security watchdog. The election in Guyana was not safe. How else do you explain a total of 47 boxes with no statutory documents? I am not making this up. “DPI, Guyana, Saturday, June 6, 2020. The Guyana Elections Commission has decided not to include the Statements of Recount from 29 ballot boxes which were missing critical documents, in the tabulation exercise. The decision was made after a meeting was called by Chairperson of GECOM Justice (retd) Claudette Singh with the Commissioners and the Chief Elections Officers Keith Lowenfield. This was disclosed via a statement from the Elections Commission this evening.

The ballot boxes belong to the East Coast of Demerara in District Four and were missing official documents such as the marked list of electors, poll books, counterfoils among other critical documentation. The APNU+AFC raised the matter as an act of electoral fraud and urged the Elections Commission to decide on the issue. “Following the discussions, the commission decided that the SORs prepared for those ballot boxes should not be included in the tabulation at this point in time,” the statement read.” (Dec 3,2020). The votes from those boxes were added later that day. Now, is that a safe election? The answer is no. Is that a fair election? No.

“Lowenfield explains that it was the Commission’s intention to reconcile the ballots cast for each List of Candidates with statutory documents contained in each ballot box but “during the recount exercise, an unusual pattern of missing statutory documents was discovered in 47 ballot boxes from polling stations on the East Coast Demerara.” Stabroek News, June 14, 2020, (Dec 3, 2020).

Where is the information on Republicans’ missing poll books? There is none because they are no missing poll books. The Republicans went to court for 367 votes missing from poll books in Michigan. The Democrats won by 150000. Is that the same atrocious behaviour that APNU/AFC carried out? Nonsense. GECOM was not allowed to reconcile the votes in the recount. The recounts were reconciled in the USA. The situations in the USA and Guyana are polar opposites. USA election is safe and fair. Guyana’s is neither. Why did CARICOM stymie the efforts to reconcile the votes during the recount? They called that exercise “a waste of time”. Why is it a waste of time to audit the votes in a recount that the order specified in Guyana? Why is an audit not ” a waste of time” in Georgia, Wisconsin, or Michigan?

Finally, this writer is trying to pull wool over people’s eyes. It will work for the PPP/C supporters but not for others. I would never accept that misinformation. If the writer is honest, he would admit that something is awfully wrong with the Guyana 2020 elections. The court should throw the results out. They do not match the standard of any fair election. They only match what the republicans wanted. I have asked this question over and over. No PPP/C supporter could answer. Why did the Republicans force “democracy” on Guyana and try to deny it in the USA? I want the writer to explain that.

Regards
E. O. Cromwell
