Todd, who personally witnessed the examination conducted by pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, said the injuries observed on the young man’s body were extensive and pointed to violence inflicted by another person.
“The evidence in relation to what happened to this young man was overwhelming. This is a clear case. The police must now move down the line of an alleged murder,” Todd declared.
According to the attorney, the post-mortem commenced shortly before 10 a.m., with a family doctor also present to support the relatives. Todd said he observed the entire dissection and witnessed evidence of significant trauma to several parts of the deceased’s body.
“There was so much trauma to this young man’s body, and this is the opinion of the pathologist. Traumas all over this boy’s body,” he stated.
Todd described extensive injuries to the abdomen, including significant internal bleeding, which he suggested was consistent with the young man having been struck with a large piece of wood or similar object.
He also reported serious injuries to the head and brain, including bleeding within the brain. According to Todd, the pathologist indicated that blunt trauma to the head was the likely cause of death.
“There was, of course, trauma to the brain, to the head. You saw bleeding in the brain,” Todd said, adding that the pathologist’s likely conclusion was that blunt trauma to the head had contributed significantly to the death.
In one of the most disturbing disclosures, Todd revealed that the examination uncovered evidence of repeated use of a Taser on the young man’s body.
He said marks consistent with the use of the device were visible across the body and that two Taser pins were physically recovered during the examination.
“What is most alarming is that the pins, they took two pins out of his body,” Todd stated.
He suggested that the presence of the embedded pins indicated the force with which the device had been applied.
Todd further disclosed that the young man’s hands had been restrained with material so strong that considerable time was required to cut through it during the examination.
He said the injuries were so extensive that the pathologist had little difficulty reaching a conclusion about the physical trauma the deceased had suffered.
“The pathologist didn’t have a difficult time at all in arriving to a conclusion, because when you went into the dissection of this body, the evidence was overwhelming,” Todd said.
The attorney insisted that the findings demanded an immediate criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, with particular attention to the actions of those responsible for the young man’s custody.
He expressed deep concern that a citizen could suffer such injuries while detained by an institution entrusted with protecting the public.
“As a citizen of this country, as a law-abiding citizen, one who’s always supported the law and the rule of law in this country, we are in a dangerous time when we see that the people who are supposed to serve and to protect the citizens and the people of this country are the ones who are perpetrating this crime,” Todd said.
He demanded swift action and insisted that those responsible must face the courts.
“There’s no ifs and buts. All the injuries seen in this man were not self-inflicted; they were inflicted by someone,” Todd declared.
“In this case, the police, they must be arrested, they must be placed before the court, and this family, this family must receive justice.”
Todd’s account raises serious questions about the treatment of the deceased while in police custody and the circumstances under which he sustained the injuries described during the post-mortem.
The attorney’s statements reflect his observations of the examination and his account of the pathologist’s findings. The official post-mortem report was not included in the statement.
His call for arrests places renewed attention on the responsibility of law enforcement authorities to investigate deaths occurring in police custody and ensure accountability where criminal wrongdoing is established.
