The Bartica Community Centre Ground came alive on Sunday, October 11, as Regional Police Division No. 7 hosted its Gymkhana 2026, featuring motorcycle stunts, tactical demonstrations, gymnastics and family-oriented activities aimed at strengthening relations between the police and residents.
The event was held under the leadership of Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner Dion Moore and chaired by Ciana Persaud. Deputy Commissioner Simon McBean and other senior police officers were also in attendance, alongside community members and other patrons.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the event was organised to foster stronger community relations across Region Seven, using entertainment and public engagement to bring officers and residents together.
The programme featured a march-past, motorcycle stunt displays and performances by the Mounted Branch. Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Canine sections also conducted demonstrations, while the Guyana Police Force Academy presented acrobatic gymnastics.
Beyond the displays, the event offered a range of novelty competitions, including a greasy pole climb, a bun-eating contest and tug-of-war matches involving different agencies.
Children were also catered for with dedicated recreational facilities, including bouncy castles and trampolines.
Cash prizes were awarded to competition winners throughout the day, adding to the festivities and encouraging participation from attendees.
The Guyana Police Force expressed gratitude to the officers, participants, community members and stakeholders whose contributions helped make the event possible.
The annual-style community gathering forms part of the Force’s efforts to promote public engagement and strengthen relationships with communities through activities that allow residents to interact with police officers outside routine law-enforcement encounters.
