Naman Dhir has been picked to replace Washington Sundar in India’s squad for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies. Washington, who is currently participating in the Asian Games in Japan, has been withdrawn from the West Indies series in view of the approaching Test series against New Zealand.

With the Ranji Trophy season set to commence on October 11, the selectors want Washington to get some red-ball cricket under him before the tough two-Test series that begins in Wellington on November 19.

Dhir, who recently made his ODI debut in Trivandrum, is uncapped in the shortest form of international cricket. In 61 T20s, however, he has scored 1222 runs at a strike-rate of 156.26 and taken eight wickets at an economy of 9.40. He featured in all 14 games of IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians, scoring 318 runs at 147.22 SR, including two half-centuries.

Meanwhile, the selectors have also called up fast bowler Anshul Kamboj ahead of the third ODI in New Chandigarh. Kamboj will replace Prasidh Krishna, who as Cricbuzz confirmed earlier, has been ruled out of the game after sustaining a hamstring injury. He will now proceed to rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Kamboj, who made his Test debut in Manchester last year, is as yet uncapped in the two international white-ball formats. He is currently in action for India A in the unofficial Tests against Australia A in Puducherry.
