Guyana’s powerlifting authorities are strengthening both athlete education and technical capacity ahead of major international competition.
The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) recently held an anti-doping education session at the National Racquet Centre, facilitated by Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organisation Chairperson Dr Karen Pilgrim and doping-control officers. Athletes preparing for the South American Powerlifting Championships in Chile participated in the programme.
The federation is also investing in coaching development. Local coaches Bjorn Williams and Ashley Abraham are attending the International Powerlifting Federation Level Two Trainer Course in Chile—the first time Guyana-based coaches have participated at that level.
Guyana is sending 17 athletes, including 10 international debutants, to the South American championships. The competition is scheduled for September 20–28 in Santiago.
