Guyana’s growing presence in regional athletics was on display at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, where national triple jumper Lloyd McCurdy delivered a strong performance to finish fifth in a competitive final.
According to a statement issued by the Guyana Olympic Association, McCurdy saved his best effort for last, producing an impressive leap of 16.02 metres on his final attempt to secure his place among the region’s top performers.
“On his final attempt, Guyana’s Lloyd McCurdy produced a superb leap of 16.02m to secure 5th place in a highly competitive Men’s Triple Jump Final at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.”
The CAC Games, one of the oldest and most prestigious multi-sport events in the region, brings together elite athletes from across the Caribbean, Central America, and parts of South America. For Guyana, participation in the Games serves as a critical platform for athletes to gain international exposure and measure themselves against top-tier competition.
McCurdy’s performance is being viewed as a significant step forward in his development, particularly given the pressure of delivering on the final attempt.
