The Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central is emerging as a leading force  for youth-led service and sustainable community development, delivering  wide-reaching impact across Guyana. In a recent interview, President  Harrinarine Balram highlighted the Club’s integrated approach to service,  noting its alignment with Rotary International and its commitment to  driving measurable change through community, professional,  international, and internal initiatives.

“At the heart of what we do is impact that is both immediate and  sustainable,” Balram shared, pointing to flagship Community Service

initiatives “Touch of Care” and “Pivot to Period Equity,” which have  collectively reached over 150 beneficiaries. “We are not only providing  essential items, but we are also restoring dignity, promoting health, and  equipping young people with knowledge that will serve them for life.”

The Club’s influence extends beyond community outreach, with World  Rotaract Week serving as a cornerstone for strengthening regional and  internal bonds. Through initiatives like “LEAD Across the Waves,”  Rotaractors across the Caribbean were brought together to share ideas,  cultures, and leadership practices. “These moments of collaboration build  the kind of regional unity and leadership capacity that Rotaract stands  for,” Balram emphasized, also noting the successful commissioning of a  new Interact Club as a key step in youth empowerment locally.

Underscoring the Club’s forward-thinking approach, Balram highlighted  the Professional Development and International Service arms, including  the “Mind Your Business” initiative and participation in “Project Elevate,”  a U.S. Youth Ambassadors-supported program. “We are equipping our  members and communities with real, practical skills: financial literacy,  conflict resolution, and leadership that translate into long-term growth,”  he said. He further credited the Finance Committee’s fundraising efforts  for ensuring the sustainability of these initiatives. “Our Finance  Committee is the backbone of our operations,” Balram explained. “Their  role goes beyond fundraising; it’s about ensuring that every initiative we  plan has the financial support needed to create real, lasting impact.”

He highlighted the success of a recent snack box fundraising initiative,  which was strategically designed to offset the costs of community service  projects. “Through this effort, we were able to generate critical funding to  support care package distribution, outreach programmes and youth

focused interventions,” he said. “It ensures that we can continue to show  up for underserved communities in a consistent and meaningful way.”

Balram concluded by expressing appreciation to those who continue to  fuel the Club’s success: “Our work would not be possible without the  unwavering dedication of our members and the generous support of our  sponsors. Their commitment, both in time and resources, allows us to  continue creating meaningful impact where it is needed most.”
