Easter is one of the most sacred observances on the Christian calendar, marked by deep reverence and reflection on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It stands as a powerful reminder of sacrifice, redemption, hope, and renewal—values that continue to resonate strongly within our society.

This holy occasion also follows the Lenten season, a period characterised by fasting, prayer, and spiritual cleansing. The conclusion of Lent invites believers and all citizens alike to reflect on personal growth, discipline, and the importance of compassion and humility in our daily lives.

In Guyana, Easter is also celebrated in a unique way through the vibrant tradition of kite flying. As kites soar high above, they symbolise not only freedom and joy but also our collective aspirations as a people—to rise, to achieve, and to realise long-held dreams. This cherished custom reflects the enduring spirit of our nation and our shared determination to reach new heights.

GAWU encourages all Guyanese to use this period for sober reflection, fostering a renewed commitment to unity, mutual respect, and the common good. Let us embrace the ideals of national development, nation building, and social cohesion, recognising that our strength lies in our collective efforts and shared purpose.

As we celebrate this Easter season, the Union urges everyone to do so responsibly and safely, with consideration for family, community, and country.

GAWU extends its best wishes to all for a peaceful, enjoyable, and safe Easter holiday.
