Change of venue for Job Preparedness workshop

Please be informed that the venue for the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (GCOPD) in partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana will host a job readiness workshop for unemployed persons who are blind and visually impaired from Regions 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10, which is scheduled for tomorrow On Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The new venue is The Conference Room of the Ministry of Labour, 82 Brikdam Street, Georgetown.

This workshop is a component of GCOPD’s ExxonMobil Guyana-funded Orientation and Mobility Programme for persons who are blind and visually impaired.

The opening ceremony will be held at 10:00 am in the conference room of the Ministry of Labour, Delivering the feature address will be the Honourable Keoma Griffith, Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning.  Other speakers include Ms. Lorna Carlson, ExxonMobil Guyana Socioeconomic Manager; Mr. Ganesh Singh, GCOPD Programme Manager, and Ms. Magda Griffith, Specialists in Sustained Youth Development and Research Inc. (SSYDR) Managing Director.

The job preparation workshop will expose beneficiaries of Orientation and Mobility Programme to training in the areas of preparation of a curriculum vitae, handling a job interview, writing a job application, among other job readiness skills.

Since the commencement of the Orientation and Mobility Programme in 2022, approximately 800 persons who are blind and visually impaired were taught independent living skills, including how to use the “white cane”.  Additionally, 500 “white canes” will be distributed through this programme.
