The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) wishes to inform the public that the Hydrometeorological Service advises that rainfall with the potential for significant flooding is expected to continue over Guyana with effect from Monday, March 30th to Wednesday, April 1st, 2026. Â
The Civil Defence Commission urges all members of the public to take the necessary precautions during periods of rainfall and flooding:Â
- Avoid flood-prone areas whenever possible. Â
- Exercise extreme caution when driving or walking during rainfall, especially in areas affected by pooling water. Â
- Keep drains, trenches, and waterways clear to reduce the risk of flooding. Â
- Secure important documents, household items, and other valuables.Â

Current Weather ConditionsÂ
(SEVERE WEATHER ADVISORY)Â
- Recent rainfall has already saturated soils, and forecastÂ
conditions are expected to increase the risk of flooding,Â
particularly in lowlying and poorly drained areas. HillyÂ
regions may also face the risk of mudslides during periodsÂ
of heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms may bring strong windsÂ
and lightning, adding to hazardous conditions.Â
Weather Forecast Â
(Tuesday March 31 to Wednesday April 1, 2026)Â
- Cloudy conditions with periods of showers are expectedÂ
throughout the period. Rainfall will be light toÂ
moderate with the heaviest on Monday especiallyÂ
inland and southern areas (up to 60 mm), and thenÂ
reduce to lighter showers by Tuesday and WednesdayÂ
(10–20 mm).Â
- Weather forcast are still indicating that Regions 5 to 10Â
will continue to experience very unstable conditions forÂ
the remainder of the week. Coastal areas will alsoÂ
experience mild to moderate convection during theÂ
morning period. Inland areas will continue toÂ
experience unstable conditions.Â
