As one who travels, it is easy to notice that Positions and Political Posturing these days, have very little to do with righteousness, correctness, principles, and the cherished values of long ago. I attended a funeral service yesterday in a rural area, and in many places the roadside and villages are littered with heavy equipment, trucks, and other road building and construction equipment. Discreet enquires revealed that in every case these things were owned by known PPP supporters.
On arrival in Georgetown the breaking news was the government takeover of several streets in the Capital. Some folks say this is madness, it is not. I believe it is a well thought out plan to ensure that the friends of the PPP government always have work for the many pieces of equipment all over the place. This plan is similar to that which is in operation in certain big countries, where statesmen on their visits always have as part of their delegation, friends and family members whose responsibility is to secure deals to enrich the big ones. Guyana is not much different – financial opportunities for families, and for the favourites of those in charge of the country.
Dear Editor, what makes the tendering and allocation of works so hurtful and harmful is that, some so-called contractors even when blacklisted after public pressure and protest, still get business by simply using different names and addresses. Dear Editor set your investigative journalist this assignment; let them establish the accuracy of the allegations continued in this letter.
