Dear Editor,

Former president Donald Ramotar’s letter titled “Dangers Facing Humanity”, is a matter to be neither trivialised nor ignored, he calls upon the US and all sane and sensible people to support the proposal to extend the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) treaty for another year.
Those of us who were already in public life, recall the anxious moments and fears we all experienced during October 1962, it was referred to as the Cuban missile crisis. Of course, history generated by the West only refers to missiles in Cuba, and not those in Turkey.

Thank God, the two Ks, Khrushchev and Kennedy, came to their senses and found a modus vivendi. Today, sixty-four years later there are enough weapons available to leaders, some not known for their wisdom and moral sense, that can easily fulfil the Biblical prediction of Armageddon.

For me, and I hope many others, I don’t want to be around for Armageddon, but rather to live to enjoy the bounty and goodness of nature. Let us therefore raise our voices and speak up and not be guilty of silence.

Yours truly,
Elder Hamilton Green
