Jamaican Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness on Friday expressed gratitude to members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) deployed in Jamaica, describing their presence as a strong demonstration of regional solidarity and Caribbean cooperation.
Speaking during an engagement with the contingent at White House, Westmoreland, Holness said the Guyanese ranks are playing a critical role in Jamaica’s recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, with their assistance making a tangible difference for affected communities.
He commended the officers and ranks for their professionalism and dedication, and thanked President Irfaan Ali, along with the Government and people of Guyana, for providing timely support, including manpower and materials. Holness said the intervention reflects the collective responsibility of Caribbean states to assist one another in times of crisis.
