Guyana’s women’s football received a boost on the global stage as Mrs. Andrea Johnson, President of the Women’s Football Association, participated in the inaugural meeting of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s Football Development Committee in Doha, Qatar.

Mrs. Johnson, recently appointed to the prestigious FIFA committee for a term running until 2029, will represent Guyana’s interests in shaping the future of women’s football worldwide. Her appointment underscores her leadership and dedication to advancing the women’s game both domestically and internationally.

At home, Mrs. Johnson has been instrumental in developing the GFF Women’s Division 1 League, the country’s first 10-team women’s league, which is currently in its playoff phase. Over the past five months, more than 150 young women have participated, gaining valuable competitive experience and exposure.

“The league was designed to provide our top female players with consistent match play and to strengthen the foundation of women’s football in Guyana,” Mrs. Johnson said.

From local leagues to international platforms, President Johnson continues to advocate for opportunities, growth, and development for women and girls in football.
