Dear Editor,

One D. Gorbardhan who claims to be a 1980 “Engineering School Graduate” of the University of Guyana, when in fact no such school existed in 1980, sought to redefine what is free education in his failed attempt to justify the President’s blatant misrepresentation of Guyana’s History in his address to UG’s 2025 Convocation.

Governance by Performance, Accountability by Threat

Worse than his attempt to support the President’s revisionist version of History is his own revisionism. First, there was no “Engineering School” at the University in 1980. He may be forgiven for referring to the Faculty of Technology thus, but certainly cannot be forgiven for naming me as the Registrar of the University in 1980 and associating me with his claimed stint of national service. In 1980 I was a student in Moscow; joined the University in 1988 as a Research-Fellow; and only became Registrar in 2008, over a decade after the abolition of National Service.

It is sad that the Gorbadhan’s in their attempts to hail President Ali render themselves to be psychopaths and strangers to the truth as a concept and a fact.

Yours truly,
Vincent Alexander
