Team Guyana had an excellent morning at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games currently being held in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
Swimming
Delroy Tyrrell of the Dorado Speed Swim Club, has moved on to the semi final round of the men’s 50 meters backstroke. He is one of three swimmers who would have made the semifinals at these games . Andrew Fowler who competed in the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan made the semifinals of the men’s 50m freestyle and at the inaugural Islamic Solidarity Games which were held right here in Riyadh in 2005 Onan Thom won a bronze medal also in the 50m backstroke.
Delroy competing in Heat 2 finished 5th with a time of 27.97 but his time was good enough for 15th place to earn him a spot in tonight’s semi finals.
Table Tennis
First on the table was Elishaba Johnson against Ahmed Salem El Hacen from Mauritania. Elishaba completely outclassed the player from Mauritania winning  11 – 4, 11 – 3, 11 – 1, 11 – 3. He advanced to the round of 32 to play Seyedamirhossein Hodaei from Iran at 17.50
 Then came the match of the morning session Chelsea Edghill was pitted against Nazim Aishath Rafa from the Maldives. Chelsea won a close first game 13 – 11 but then lost the next two games 11 – 6, 11 – 6. Chelsea completely dominated the fourth game winning it 11 – 3 but then lost the crucial fifth game 12 – 10 to be trailing by three games to two. She held her nerve to win a tense sixth game 11 – 9 to set up the decider. The seventh game went down to the wire but Chelsea eventually prevailed 11 – 9 to advance to the round of 16 where she will play Judith Parvin Nangonzi from Uganda at 19.10.
Jasmine Billingy faced Harac Ece from Turkey. Jasmine went down easily in the first three games 11 – 2, 11 – 4, 11 – 3 but fought hard in the fourth but lost it 11 – 7.
Top player Shemar Britton plays Ali Alkhudrawi in the round of 32 at 17.10.
