“The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (GSDMS) extends our deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and friends on the passing of Basil Persaud, former President of the GSDMS.

Mr. Persaud served this nation with distinction and devotion, wearing many hats throughout his life — as a Justice of the Peace, a former Member of Parliament, and a dedicated leader within the Maha Sabha and the wider Hindu community.

His contributions to religion, community service, and public life will forever be remembered with gratitude and respect.

We join in prayer for the eternal peace of his soul and strength for his loved ones during this time of grief.

Om Sadgati.”

Born on September 21, 1930, on the Enmore Sugar Plantation, East Coast Demerara, Persaud led a life of purpose and service. He was a Justice of the Peace, founding executive member of the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce, and Essequibo Regional Manager of the Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO).

Before migrating to Canada, Persaud resided at Bush Lot, Essequibo Coast, where he was well known for his commitment to community development and religious leadership.

He is survived by his four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Basil Persaud will be held on Thursday, November 6, in Canada.
