A recent report by Village Voice News highlighted a family alleged to be involved in terrorising residents of Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara. That same family is once again in the spotlight after two of the sons reportedly stabbed each other in a violent altercation. Both are scheduled to appear before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court.

The mother, a known supporter of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), is said to have been the one who alerted the authorities. The vicious encounter left one of her sons bloodied and the other reportedly screaming in what residents described as drug-fueled rage.

Neighbours who witnessed the incident told this publication that no one came to the aid of the family, who many believe have long instilled fear in the community.

Residents have previously complained of living in fear due to a sustained pattern of theft, harassment, and intimidation allegedly carried out by a group of men believed to be from the same family. Some residents claim that political connections have shielded the suspects from accountability, despite multiple complaints and evidence.

Over the years, residents have reported a string of break-ins and thefts affecting homes, shops, and vehicles. Stolen items have reportedly included motorcycles, weed whackers, bicycles, jewelry, household electronics, and mobile phones. While the alleged incidents have been occurring for several years, many believe the criminal activity has intensified in recent months.

New surveillance cameras installed in the community have reportedly captured images of the suspected perpetrators. Multiple individuals identified in the footage are said to be sons of the woman known in the area for her PPP/C affiliations.

Residents allege that, despite handing over photographic and video evidence to the Providence Police Station, there has been little to no action taken. Some community members say police officers have privately expressed reluctance to intervene, citing fears of political retaliation.

They further allege that the woman frequently intervenes when her sons are detained, often leading to their release without charges. One resident referenced a now-deceased son, stating that he had “been in and out of jail” before his death.

Footage reportedly taken in August 2025 shows several men nailing PPP/C flags to utility poles around 3 a.m. Residents claim these individuals are the same ones responsible for other acts of intimidation in the community, including purse-snatching and the harassment of young adults.

More serious allegations have also emerged, with residents accusing some of the men of involvement in sexual misconduct, including the alleged abuse of young boys in the area. These claims have not been officially confirmed or substantiated by law enforcement.

In a separate incident earlier this month, residents say an attempted motorcycle theft was thwarted when a Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) transport vehicle arrived at the scene. According to witnesses, one of the woman’s sons was allegedly apprehended while fleeing with the stolen bike. However, no official statement has been issued by either CANU or the police.

Within the past two weeks, a home goods store and the residence of a schoolteacher were also reportedly burglarised. Although neighbours say they have submitted video evidence to the police, no suspects have been arrested.

Editor’s Note: The individuals referenced in this report have not been formally charged for all the allegations made against them, and the situation remains under investigation.
