The critical role of interpreters and language professionals in supporting national development and international engagement was underscored Tuesday during a high-level event hosted by Tagman Media to mark United Nations International Translation Day.

Held at Herdmanston Lodge, the Live Language Demos and Mixer showcased cutting-edge interpretation technology and brought together senior government officials, diplomats, and judicial leaders. The event featured live demonstrations of conference interpretation equipment and celebrated the growing importance of professional language services in Guyana and the wider Caribbean.

Public Service Minister Zulfikar Ally, who participated in the demonstrations, highlighted the essential role of interpreters in connecting Guyana to the world.

“Interpreters are not just carrying words across languages, they are carrying trust, building bridges, and ensuring Guyana’s voice is heard clearly in the world,” Minister Ally said.

He praised Tagman Media for its leadership in advancing interpretation services in the country:

“By investing in the people and technology that make communication possible, Tagman Media is helping Guyana not only to be heard, but also to listen and respond more effectively to its partners. That is how true dialogue and stronger international relationships are built.”

UN Resident Coordinator Jean Njeri Kamau commended the initiative on behalf of the UN Country Team, aligning the event’s purpose with the UN’s global mission:

“The United Nations’ mandate is set on Leaving No One Behind, and we see translation services as a medium to bridge the gaps between inequality and injustice,” she said. “Such events help to promote the message of peace and inclusivity amongst diverse populations.”

Tagman Media CEO Alex Graham reinforced the necessity of professional interpretation as Guyana’s global footprint grows:

“As Guyana takes on a larger role in regional and global affairs, professional interpretation services are no longer optional, they are essential,” he stated. “Our role is not just to ensure that Guyana is heard, but also that Guyana hears and fully understands its partners on the world stage.”

Attendees included Acting Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire, Justice of Appeal Nareshwar Harnanan, technical staff of the court system, and senior diplomatic representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank, Dominican Republic, China, India, and CARICOM. Business and tourism leaders were also present.

Tagman Media demonstrated advanced interpretation technology including the Televic Confidea G3 Wireless system, Lingua Interpreter Desks, and UNITE Digital Bodypack Receivers, giving guests hands-on experience with tools used at international summits.

International Translation Day, observed annually on September 30, celebrates the role of language professionals in fostering global cooperation, peace, and development.
