Number 63 Beach is currently undergoing significant enhancements as part of the government’s national drive to position Guyana as a premier tourism destination. The upgrades are being carried out under the National Beautification Project, spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and the Region Six Regional Democratic Council.

Situated in Guyana’s Corentyne region, No. 63 Beach has been a well-loved recreational area cherished for its beautiful scenery and coastal atmosphere. Traditionally, it has been a hub for community activities such as fishing, picnics, and cultural celebrations, showcasing the rich and lively culture of the local population. Over time, the beach has grown to play a significant role in the social and economic life of the region, drawing both locals and tourists alike.

Last Wednesday, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, along with Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Kamrul Baksh, conducted a site visit to assess ongoing works at the popular beach.

Minister Rodrigues said the project is part of a larger national vision to elevate Guyana’s tourism product by developing well-loved local attractions into top-tier visitor destinations.

“As a destination serious about tourism, our priority is to expand and enhance the experiences we offer,” she said. “This beach is already a popular attraction, but with the transformative upgrades led by the First Lady, it will be elevated into a premiere tourism landmark—one that significantly boosts our national appeal.”

She also highlighted major infrastructural developments taking place in Region Six, including the construction of a new world-class stadium at Palmyra and the forthcoming Corentyne River Bridge, which will connect Guyana to Suriname. These, she noted, will create a surge in regional tourism.

“With these and other transformative developments, we expect a significant influx of visitors to the region, and this beach will serve as a key hub for leisure and entertainment, ensuring they enjoy the best of what Guyana has to offer,” Rodrigues added.

The Ministry of Tourism is expected to roll out detailed development plans for Number 63 Beach and other recreational sites across the country in the coming months, as part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen Guyana’s growing tourism sector.
