Moray House Trust warmly welcomes anyone with an interest in art or in cricket to visit an exhibition of cricket bats and balls that have been transformed into works of art.
September in Guyana began with national elections and continues with a cricket competition, the Caribbean Premier League. A progression from ballots to bats. At first glance, the two may not seem to have much in common. Yet, seventy-five years ago, the Trinidadian writer C.L.R James made a connection between them. In his famous book, Beyond a Boundary, C.L.R James linked cricket with democracy citing both as examples of the universal urge to ‘grasp at a more complete human existence.’Â
Last year The Gallery at Moray House launched with an exhibition titled bat and ball. This year, in tribute to C.L.R James, it will host an exhibition titled Beyond a Boundary: what is art? The exhibition runs from Saturday 13th September to Saturday 20th September 2025 at Moray House Trust, 239 Camp & Quamina Streets, Georgetown. It will be open to the public between the hours of 11.00 AM and 2.00 PM daily or by appointment.Â
Once again, artists have been invited to decorate simple homemade bats and some cricket balls. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge. All items of artwork in the exhibition are for sale.
