Mental Health is Real

His Worship Alfred Mentore
Mayor of Georgetown,
Greetings of wellbeing.
The residents of Subryanville oppose the ongoing current construction at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field. We hereby demand an immediate cease and desist and/or any stop order to be issued by the Mayor City Council (M&CC) to Mr. Sugrim and/or Mae’s School and/or any other. Further we hereby demand an immediate rescinding of any and/or all permits issued by the Mayor and City Council, Georgetown, for any construction and/or assemblage at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field.
In 2018, before the current Mayor and Councilors as well as the current owners of Mae’s School, both the then Ministry of Communities and M&CC after discussions with the residents undertook to withhold exclusive rights usage of the exact same eastern portion of Farnum Playing Field to Mae’s school. It is quite astonishing that an alleged permit was issued to Mae’s School by the current Mayor and Councilors. Further at no time has there been any stakeholder consultations with the residents.
Hence this letter serves as an inquiry requesting information on the following:
  • Has a permit to build, construct and/or use the eastern portion of Farnum Playing Field been issued by the current Mayor and City Councilors?
  • How to obtain a copy of this aforementioned permit, if any?
We, the residents of Subryanville demand the following:
  • The immediate stoppage of the current ongoing construction at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field
  • The immediate removal of all building material at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field
  • The immediate cancellation of any permits to build and/or use the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field
  • The immediate withdrawal of any permits and/or permission given to Mr. and/or Mrs. Sugrim and/or Mae’s School viz a viz Farnum Playing Field.
With every hope that our demands will be expeditiously enacted. Failure to enforce the aforementioned demands with immediate effect will leave us no other alternative but to seek legal advice and/or proceedings.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Deane-Hughes
&
Other residents of Subryanville
Dear Honourable Minister & Chief Education Officer,
Om Shanti.
As you may be aware from recent letters in the public media: Subryanville playground being used for reconstruction of school – Stabroek News, This seems to be an appropriation of the Farnum Playing Field by Mae’s Schools – Stabroek News, inter alia, that Mae’s School’s occupation of community space, Farnum Playing Field, Subryanville is being vehemently opposed by the residents of the said area. The uninsured Mae’s School was destroyed by fire earlier in the year, threatening nearby properties and also involved the fatality of a firefighter. Mr. Sugrim of Mae’s School informed that the school had permission from the Mayor & City Council. Under a separate line of authority, the Mayor and City Council, which never undertook any stakeholder consultations before disposing of the usage of community common space, shall be asked to produce this alleged permit. And a cease-and-desist order to stop the current ongoing construction at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field shall be demanded. Indeed, it shall be established if the Mayor and City Council have any authority to permit lands within Farnum Playing Field for usage by Mae’s School, a private entreprise. Mae’s School has many options, some of which include building the “temporary” structures at their location in Farm or near thereto and/or renting other premises in a different location, inter alia.  The Mayor, listed on social media as a property developer, is copied herewith. As is the online listed email for Mae’s School.
While prima facie this may seem to be of no concern to the Ministry of Education, to reiterate, the residents of Subryanville vehemently oppose this unauthorized occupation of our community’s Farnum Playing Field. This matter shall be taken to its logical conclusion with the regaining of the entirety of Farnum Playing Field for public usage. Sharing an appreciation of this community space from a member of the public That Farnum playground has an impressive history – Kaieteur News. Please be informed that these actions can possibly lead to a disruption in the occupation of any and/or all building/s erected by Mae’s School in Farnum Playing Field. Thereby affecting the students and staff, possibly mid-term. And kindly note that this letter is written to give notice to and inform the Ministry of Education of this possibility before :-
  • the completion of the construction of the buildings at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field for usage by Mae’s School,
  • the new school year and term begins in September 2025,
  • any permit and/or authorization is given by the Ministry of Education for the operation of Mae’s School at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field.
The residents strongly urge the Ministry of Education through the Minister and the Chief Education Officer to withhold any permits and/or authorization of Mae’s School while it is located in Farnum Playing Field, Subryanville.
Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth Deane-Hughes
&
Other residents of Subryanville.
