Presidential candidate for We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), Azruddin Mohamed, is calling on Guyanese to reject fear and intimidation and embrace the dawn of what he describes as a “new Guyana,” one free of victimization and political fear tactics.
In a public message posted to his social media platform, Mohamed claimed that WIN, the only multi-ethnic party in the race, has been gaining ground across the country, including in regions traditionally held by the incumbent People’s Progressive Party (PPP). That momentum, he says, has triggered a wave of political intimidation directed at WIN supporters.
“It has been brought to my attention that some of you have been intimidated, threatened and victimised for supporting our party,” Mohamed stated. “For example, as I enter predominantly Indian areas, I have experienced threats and verbal attacks from those sent by the People’s Progressive Party.”
According to Mohamed, these attacks are not just directed at him, but at the growing number of citizens from all ethnic and social backgrounds who are quietly supporting WIN behind the scenes.
“To the tens of thousands, the silent majority, WIN is your voice,” he said. “Those of you who have been victimised for liking our various social media posts, those of you who are fearful to attend our rallies and public meetings, those of you who can’t publicly support us — you are silent. Let me tell you now, we understand what you’re going through and we feel your pain.”
Mohamed also addressed alleged scare tactics being used to manipulate voters, including widespread rumors that the PPP would be able to track how individuals vote.
“I have heard the rumors that the PPP claim they would know who you voted for,” he said. “But rest assured, there is no way that the PPP administration can find out who you voted for. So don’t be afraid. Your vote is sacred and private, and only you will know who you voted for.”
With the September 1 general and regional elections just days away, Mohamed’s message was both a call for courage and a promise of change.
“In a few days, the PPP will not be in power and therefore they cannot victimise you,” he declared. “Only a few days, we welcome the dawn of a new day in Guyana. A new Guyana of no more victimization. A new Guyana without fear or favour. A new Guyana where everybody wins.”
Mohamed ended with a rallying cry to supporters: “Come Monday, we will WIN together. On Election Day, there is only one choice — WIN
