When asked to comment that China will hold commemorative events next week marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War— with some European countries’ leaders or sending senior representatives to attend, while there are also opinions suggesting that some countries may be unwilling to participate for various reasons, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that so far, nearly 50 leaders, former political figures, senior officials, envoys to China, and friends from 30 European countries have confirmed their participation in the commemorative events. This reflects the desire and determination to jointly safeguard historical memory and defend peace and justice.

China is willing to work together with all peace-loving countries and peoples to firmly uphold a correct view of history, jointly defend the achievements of the victory of World War II and the post-war international order, and safeguard world peace and stability, said Guo.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. More than 80 years ago, China, through enormous national sacrifice, supported the Eastern main battlefield of the world anti-fascist war, coordinated with and assisted Allied operations, and made significant historic contributions to the ultimate victory, said Guo.

At that time, many European countries and friends provided China with valuable manpower and material support, and some even sacrificed their lives. Their moving deeds will always be remembered by the Chinese people, said Guo.

In response to another question noting that China on Thursday announced the list of foreign guests attending the September 3 V-Day military parade with no major Western countries mentioned, Guo said that China has already released information this morning on the foreign leaders attending the commemorative events, which can be consulted.

“I want to emphasize that China is holding these commemorative events to remembering history, honoring martyrs, cherishing peace and creating the future,” said Guo.
