Dr. Simona Charles Broomes, Leader of the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), continued her party’s pre-election engagements this week with formal meetings alongside representatives of The Carter Center and the Commonwealth. These high-level discussions come as part of ongoing international assessments of Guyana’s preparedness for the upcoming General and Regional Elections, scheduled for September 1, 2025.
Dr. Broomes, accompanied by senior ALP officials, welcomed both delegations and expressed strong support for the presence of international observers during this critical period. She underscored the ALP’s commitment to upholding democratic principles, transparency, and electoral integrity, and emphasized the importance of robust, independent monitoring in ensuring free and fair elections.

“We appreciate the role of The Carter Center and the Commonwealth in promoting democratic credibility,” Dr. Broomes stated following the meetings. “Their involvement reinforces the need for accountability, fairness, and a level playing field for all political actors.”
The Carter Center, with a longstanding presence in Guyana’s electoral landscape, is currently meeting with political parties and stakeholders to assess conditions on the ground. Similarly, the Commonwealth’s mission is part of a broader international effort to monitor the electoral process and provide recommendations where necessary.
Both meetings were described by the ALP as constructive and timely, taking place amid growing calls for transparency, equitable access to the electoral process, and reforms such as a sanitized voters’ list and enhanced voter identification systems.
With less than six weeks to go before election day, the ALP reaffirmed its readiness to contest the polls and reiterated its openness to continued engagement with international partners to ensure the credibility of Guyana’s democratic process.
