Loop News – Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon has been appointed to the Vatican’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue by Pope Leo XIV.

In a statement, the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) said the appointment of Gordon—who also serves as AEC President—reflects the pope’s confidence in the delegation and the archbishop’s longstanding commitment to promoting dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among people of different faith traditions.

“His Grace joins a distinguished group of Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and Vicars from around the world in this important ministry of promoting peace and mutual respect among religions,” the AEC said.

Pope Francis named 21 new members to the Dicastery, including:

  • Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, OFM, Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins (Israel)
  • Cardinal Tarcisio Isao Kikuchi, Archbishop of Tokyo
  • Cardinal Dominique Joseph Mathieu, Archbishop of Teheran-Ispahan of the Latins (Iran)
  • Cardinal Frank Leo, Archbishop of Toronto

The Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue is responsible for fostering dialogue between the Catholic Church and members of other religion as part of the Vatican’s mission of building bridges and promoting peace across faiths.
