GMIN Ventures Guyana Inc. on Monday, June 30, 2025, hosted a special prize-giving ceremony to honour 10 outstanding pupils from Region Seven (7) who excelled at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). The initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to advancing education and empowering young minds within Region Seven communities.

The awardees, representing the top two performers from the communities of Bartica, Karrau, Kartabo, Itaballi, and Batavia, were celebrated for their exceptional academic achievement and dedication to excellence.

  • Potaro Primary School, Bartica
    • 1st Place: Micaiah Hart
    • 2nd Place: Bhavani Sieucharran
  • Karrau
    • 1st Place: Trevor Phillips
    • 2nd Place: Marielle Isaacs
  • Kartabo
    • 1st Place: Jaden Bennett
    • 2nd Place: Jaheim Peters
  • Itaballi
    • 1st Place: Shem Simon
    • 2nd Place: Sebastian Chung
  • Batavia
    • 1st Place: Amwon Lyte
    • 2nd Place: Klenon Ferreira

First-place recipients were awarded laptops, speakers, laptop bags with built-in charging ports, flash drives, and headphones, while second-place awardees received electronic tablets, painting sets, books, and a variety of stationery supplies to support their continued learning

The event was attended by Mayor of Bartica, Mr. Anthony Murray and Regional Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Williams. Both officials commended GMIN for its meaningful engagement in the region and its ongoing efforts to honour its corporate social responsibility through initiatives such as this. Toshao of Batavia, Mr. Murphy Gomez was also in attendance. 

GMIN’s Country Manager, Mr. Bjorn Jeune, congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them to remain focused on their educational journey. He underscored the importance of discipline, mentorship, and spiritual guidance in shaping their futures.

In his address, Mr. Jeune reminded the students that they have already overcome their first major academic milestone and encouraged them to remain focused and intentional about the choices they make moving forward.

“Seek guidance from those who have walked the path before you and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Your journey is just beginning, and with faith, wisdom, and perseverance, your future holds great promise,” Mr. Jeune said. 

This prize-giving ceremony is one of several initiatives GMIN is undertaking to positively impact communities within Region 7. The company’s investment in education is part of its broader vision to foster long-term development and opportunity through its operations, particularly the Oko West Gold Project
