A memorial service will be held this Friday, June 6, to honour the life of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, whose tragic death has shaken communities both in the United States and Guyana.
The service, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Bethesda Healing Center Church (167 East 98th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11212), is being organised by Adrianna’s family, the Guyana Independence Celebration Committee New York, and members of Brooklyn’s clergy. All Guyanese nationals and friends of Guyana are invited to attend and join in remembering the life of the young victim.
Adrianna Younge, whose death has drawn widespread outrage and sorrow, is being remembered as a bright and loving child whose future was cut heartbreakingly short. Organisers say the service will not only be a time for mourning, but also a moment of unity and reflection for the Guyanese diaspora.
The Bethesda Healing Center Church is located at the corner of East 98th Street and Winthrop Street in Brooklyn. Community members are encouraged to arrive early and show support for Adrianna’s family during this time of unimaginable grief.
On the morning of Thursday, April 24, 2025, the body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge was discovered in the swimming pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, less than 24 hours after she was reported missing.
Adrianna had been at the hotel with her grandmother and other relatives on Wednesday afternoon, but was last seen around 1:02 p.m. Despite initial searches of the premises, her body was found floating in the pool the following morning. This discovery sparked outrage among the local community, leading to protests and calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
