As Guyana continues its upward trajectory of development, driven by newfound resources and economic potential, it is time for us to think boldly about national infrastructure that can truly transform our regions. I believe one such visionary project is the construction of a bridge network linking Parika to Leguan Island, from Leguan to Wakenaam, and from Wakenaam to the Essequibo Coast.

This series of bridges would not only symbolise national unity and progress but would unlock unprecedented economic opportunities within Region 3 and beyond. The islands of Leguan and Wakenaam are rich in agricultural potential, but their isolation limits large-scale investment and efficient transportation. Connecting these islands to the mainland would reduce dependency on ferry services, improve access to markets, and foster tourism, trade, and employment.

Environmental Stewardship Must Extend to Law Enforcement Practices

The Government of Guyana, empowered by oil revenues and a rapidly growing economy, is now in a unique position to fund and facilitate transformative infrastructure. Such a project would not just be a link between land massesโ€”it would be a bridge to prosperity, empowering communities that have long remained on the margins of national development.

This vision, once considered ambitious, is now achievable. It requires leadership, consultation, and long-term planning. Let us take the bold step to invest in our hinterland and coastal regions by building the infrastructure that connects people, goods, and opportunities.

The time to act is now.
