West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers has been officially signed by Islamabad United as a replacement player for the remainder of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the franchise announced on Monday.

Mayers, known for his explosive batting and useful medium pace, comes in as a substitute following the unavailability of South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen and Australia’s Matt Short, both of whom were initially part of United’s overseas contingent.

“Explosive. Versatile. Match-winner. 🔥 Welcome to the #ISLUFamily!” the franchise posted on social media, confirming Mayers’ arrival.

Van der Dussen was drafted in the Platinum category but was later ruled out due to personal reasons. While Alex Carey of Australia was named as his initial replacement, he too became unavailable after his domestic team advanced to the finals of Australia’s domestic season, making a PSL appearance impossible.

Islamabad United acknowledged the situation in a statement, saying, “Rassie van der Dussen won’t be able to join us this season due to personal reasons. Islamabad United stands firmly with Rassie during this difficult time. After discussions, both parties have mutually agreed that he will not be participating in this season. We extend our full support to him and his family.”

With both van der Dussen and Short out of the competition, United turned to the 31-year-old Mayers, who has represented the West Indies in all three formats and is renowned for his aggressive style at the top of the order. His addition gives Islamabad United a powerful option as they aim to defend their PSL title and become the first team to win three championships in the tournament’s history.

Mayers’ T20 experience spans across top leagues around the world, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Indian Premier League (IPL), and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), making him a seasoned campaigner well-suited to the PSL stage. Sportsmax
