Dear Editor,
As a Lindener I wish to condemn in the highest form of condemnations, the police use of tear gas on mourners and residents of the mining town of Linden who came out in solidarity to show last respect to Ronaldo Peters and Keon Foganey.
Both young men were shot dead by a senior police officers in Linden and was laid to rest on April 20th. During the funeral procession on the streets of Linden, while passing at the police station, some angry residents and mourners vented their anger and frustration by placing the coffin of both young men in front of the police station.
Editor, justice delayed is justice denied. The mourners began simply shaking the gate of the police station to vent frustration and anger only. The police lives, the station or properties of the police or state were at no time threatened by the mourners but in return the police decided to open fire with tear gas on the mourners.
The use of tear gas on the residents and mourners paying their last respect to their fellow Lindeners is totally unacceptable and uncalled for by the police in Linden. This action surely and clearly demonstrated that the police in Linden are not willing to be part of the solution and this paves a serious concern to the residents of Linden.
Yours truly,
Lorenzo Joseph
Resident Of Linden.
