The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has refuted claims published by Village Voice alleging that the ministry “refused” to pay individuals who participated in the Mashramani competitions on its behalf. In an official statement, the ministry asserted that a significant portion of the revellers and supporters have already been compensated, with the remaining payments currently underway.

The ministry further criticized Village Voice for not seeking its response before publication, labeling the article as “scandalous” and “distasteful.”

Village Voice, however, stands firmly by its reporting. Our investigation included interviews with three citizens—all single mothers—who independently reported being turned away multiple times by security personnel when attempting to collect their payments.

Village Voice maintains its commitment to accurate and fair journalism.  Our primary goal is to shed light on the concerns of citizens who feel marginalized and ensure that their voices are heard.
