At a momentous event held at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Regional Vice Chairman Mark Goring delivered an inspiring speech to officially open the newly constructed Blueberry Wismar Health Centre. The $28.3 Million Centre was declared open on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 by Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony.
In his address, Goring highlighted the facility as a major milestone in the region’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access for all residents, while also addressing the challenges that Region 10 has historically faced in terms of development.
Region 10, which has long been a stronghold of the opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), has been historically neglected by the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP). Despite this, leaders in both the regional and municipal governments have fought tirelessly to bring much-needed services and development to the area. The opening of the Blueberry Wismar Health Centre is an important example of this persistent struggle and the hard-won victories of the local leadership.
“This facility represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing quality comprehensive care to communities across region 10,” Goring stated.
He emphasised the regional administration’s ongoing efforts to bring essential services closer to the people, particularly in the Constituency #7 area, which will now benefit from a wide range of healthcare services, including preventative care, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

The Regional Vice Chairman further underscored the importance of creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for community members, explaining that the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) has prioritised ensuring individuals feel at ease while waiting for appointments or receiving treatment. A positive healthcare environment, he noted, plays a crucial role in improving overall health outcomes.
Goring also reassured the public of the RDC’s commitment to maintaining an adequate supply of essential and critical medications across Region 10. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that patients have consistent access to life-saving drugs, a priority that is central to improving health services in the region.

In his speech, Goring also took time to address the region’s focus on preventative healthcare. Through educational initiatives and community outreach programmes, the RDC aims to reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases and foster a culture of health awareness. He praised acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Linden Hospital Complex and Regional Health Officer, Dr. Gregory Harris, and his team for their ongoing efforts in promoting these initiatives.
As the Blueberry Wismar Health Centre was officially commissioned, Goring concluded his address by calling on all community members to unite in celebrating the occasion. He reaffirmed the region’s commitment to high-quality healthcare services, emphasising the shared responsibility to work together toward a healthier future for the people of the Upper Demerara/Berbice Region.
Goring concluded his address by calling on the residents and their leadership to “Let us reaffirm our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to our community and vow to work together towards a healthier future for the people of the upper Demerara/ Berbice region.”
Also in attendance were Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr. Gregory Harris; Deputy RHO, Dr. Kenesha Samuels; Regional Chairman, Deron Adams; Regional Executive Officer (REO), Dwight John; staff members of the Linden Hospital Complex and other officials.
