By Mark DaCosta- The community of D’Urban Backlands is reportedly  in shock following the brutal murder of A Partnership for National Unity ( APNU) City Councillor and businessman Kyle Anthony Solomon, who was fatally stabbed during an attempted burglary at his home in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident, which occurred around 4:00 am, has left residents in shock and prompted an urgent police investigation. A 16-year-old suspect, described as a school dropout, is currently being sought by authorities.

According to police reports, Solomon, 47, was at his residence when he heard suspicious activity outside. Upon investigating, he discovered a teenage boy attempting to break into his shop, located approximately 30 feet from his home. Solomon raised an alarm, causing the suspect to flee. The councillor pursued the teenager and caught up with him, leading to a heated confrontation.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Solomon multiple times. The wounds included injuries to his chest, lower abdomen, left rib cage, left arm, and left elbow. Solomon collapsed to the ground, and the suspect fled the scene.

Emergency services were called, but Solomon was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Walcott of the Georgetown Public Hospital. His body was later transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect, identified as a 16-year-old school dropout from the D’Urban Backlands area, remains at large. Police have questioned several individuals as part of their investigation and are intensifying efforts to locate the teenager. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.

Kyle Solomon was not only a successful businessman but also a dedicated city councillor for Constituency Number 9, known for his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents. His untimely death has sparked an outpouring of grief and raised concerns about youth crime and public safety in Guyana.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrator to justice. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and are working tirelessly to ensure that the suspect is apprehended,” the statement read.

Solomon’s death has reignited discussions about the need for stronger measures to address crime and protect citizens. Community leaders have called for increased support for at-risk youth and greater investment in crime prevention initiatives.

As the investigation continues, residents of D’Urban Backlands and beyond are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Guyana Police Force immediately.
