72-Year-Old Passenger Dies at Cheddi Jagan Int’l Airport Before Boarding AA Flight

In a tragic incident at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Friday, January 10, 72-year-old Ms. Alwayne Barratt passed away while preparing to board American Airlines flight AA2694 to New York.

Ms. Barratt, who was traveling with her son to seek further medical treatment in the United States, had been discharged from Balwant Singh Hospital just a day earlier. According to her family, she was battling multiple health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and pneumonia.

While waiting in the boarding area, Ms. Barratt appeared visibly unwell. Airline personnel promptly directed her to the Port Health Unit for a medical evaluation. Unfortunately, during the assessment, it was discovered that she had no pulse. An ambulance was immediately dispatched, and she was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where medical staff pronounced her dead.

The management of CJIA has extended heartfelt condolences to Ms. Barratt’s family and friends, expressing sympathy during this time of grief.
