Last week, Experiment to Discover Hope (EDH) was the grateful recipient of five new laptops donated by the Mark Benschop Foundation through his daughter Emma, sons Ryan and Jonathan; along with Brenda Casey, Derrick Arjune and Wayne Caesar.

EDH founder, Linden Mayor Sharma Solomon, says when the organisation was formed in 2014 it was part of an empowerment campaign he launched during his tenure as Regional Chairman, Region 10 (2011-2015).

Taking to his social media page to express gratitude and explain more, the mayor says with the invaluable support of Benschop Foundation, Retrieve Youth Corps, and several other organisations, EDH provided scholarships and resources to numerous youth across the Linden township.

Solomon says he is proud to make known that all the members and beneficiaries of EDH graduated from universities and colleges, going on to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, and more.

Benschop told Village Voice News, organisations like EDH is a fountain of hope and light for many, particularly those disadvantaged either due to limited economic resources or denial by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government.

Linden is a stronghold of the opposition, People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), and over the years has experienced great socio-economic setbacks, resulting from the PPP’s policies that have marginalised opposition-aligned communities.

According to the foundation chairman and owner of 107.1FM radio, ordinary Guyanese should be provided the resources they need to thrive, and “if the Benschop Foundation can play a part in making this possible, it will.” His six-year-old daughter, Emma, who was with him, chimed in stating: “Yes, daddy, let’s get more laptops for the boys and girls in Guyana!” Benschop is also calling on others to support the EDH.

Meanwhile, EDH leader, Solomon, is encouraging others to participate and provide hope and opportunities for others. “I encourage others to join this noble cause so that together, we can continue to inspire and uplift through our ‘Experiment to Discover Hope,’” he intones.
