By Nicole Telford- Detectives attached to Regional Police Division B are in search of a so far unnamed suspect in connection with the killing of a 49-year-old Sarah Johanna man, identified as Sherwin Hamilton.
Hamilton was killed at 3:00 hrs on Saturday in front of the Boathouse sports bar at Land of Canaan, on the East Bank of Demerara.
A security guard at the Boat House Bar reportedly told investigators that Hamilton and the suspect were involved in a heated argument which saw him having to ask the suspect to leave as he was the aggressor.
At 3:00 hrs the DJ shut off the music and asked patrons to leave the establishment which they began doing. It was during the process of leaving the bar through the door facing the public road, that Hamilton was confronted by the suspect and another male. The suspect allegedly shot Hamilton to his upper left thigh before escaping the scene on an XR motorcycle.
It is said that a nurse who was among the patrons rendered first aid by tying Hamilton’s injured leg with a vest.
He was later picked up by his wife and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
While processing the scene, ranks found a 9MM spent shell some twenty feet away from the western entrance of the bar.
