The Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) is calling on all African Guyanese and other concerned citizens to rally behind Enrico Woolford, a respected African Guyanese American journalist, who has come under attack following his accurate reporting on a recent incident involving a PPP government minister.

Enrico Woolford reported that Vickram Bharrat, the Minister of Natural Resources, was met and escorted off a flight at JFK Airport in New York and questioned by Federal Agents. “This report has incited backlash from Bharrat and the PPP, who have since launched a racially charged campaign to discredit Woolford.”, the statement reads.

The CGID condemns this campaign as an attempt to intimidate journalists, particularly those of African Guyanese descent, and deter them from reporting on government corruption and other pertinent issues. The organization highlights that Bharrat has enlisted the services of Sanjeev Datadin, a PPP-affiliated attorney, to threaten Woolford with a libel lawsuit and potential criminal charges.

CGID views this situation as a broader conflict between the PPP’s ethnic supremacists and the African Guyanese community. The organization emphasizes that “not only is this an attack on Woolford, but it is also an attempt to assert ethnic dominance over African Guyanese journalists and, by extension, the Black population of Guyana.”

In response, CGID is calling for a united front. “We African Guyanese must have none of it,” the statement reads. “Our indomitable ancestors did not fight and die to abolish slavery for their descendants to be conquered by PPP apartheid racists who believe Black people are second-class citizens who should be seen and not heard.”

CGID is urging all African Guyanese and allies, both in Guyana and the diaspora, to stand with Woolford. The organization encourages people to take to social media and declare their support with the message: “I STAND WITH ENRICO WOOLFORD.”

Furthermore, CGID calls on African Guyanese attorneys to flood the courts in a mass show of support if legal actions are initiated against Woolford. “This collective effort will demonstrate unyielding unity and resistance against what they describe as PPP ethnic tyranny.”, the statement continues.

As the situation unfolds, the support for Enrico Woolford grows, highlighting the community’s resilience and commitment to justice.
