The Calvary Moravian Church, in collaboration with the Specialist Medical Outreach Team (SMOT), hosted a medical outreach and blood drive at Good Intent in Region Three on Saturday.

The annual event, which coincides with the Church’s 104 anniversary, provided vital healthcare services to over 100 residents.

From early morning, a steady stream of residents arrived at the outreach venue, eager to take advantage of the free medical services.

The range of medical services included blood pressure and blood sugar testing, ear, nose, and throat examinations, physiotherapy sessions, and distribution of free medication.

This array of services ensured that participants received thorough health assessments and immediate care for any identified issues.

The Pastor of the Calvary Moravian Church thanked the outreach team for coming on board to offer the much-needed service.

Meanwhile, SMOT’s Coordinator, Calvin Roberts, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the positive impact of the event.

“We are thrilled with the response from the Good Intent community,” Roberts said. “Our goal is to make healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Today’s turnout demonstrates the community’s need for these services and motivates us to continue our outreach efforts.”

The blood drive, an integral part of the outreach, also saw significant participation.

One attendee, Jane Archer, praised the initiative. She said, “It’s wonderful to have these services available for free. I was able to get my blood pressure and blood sugar tested and even saw a physiotherapist for my back pain. The team here is doing an amazing job.”

SMOT, which was launched in May of 2023, is a dedicated group of medical professionals committed to delivering essential healthcare services to underserved communities throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.

Founded on the principles of compassion, accessibility, and excellence in medical care, SMOT aims to bridge the gap between medical needs and available resources, ensuring that quality healthcare is within reach for everyone.

Comprised of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and various healthcare specialists, SMOT operates through a series of outreach programmes and events.
