The Parika Learning Pod, an after-school program, in region 3 has made significant strides in education within the community, thanks to the generous support of IDBLab and the dedicated efforts of STEMGuyana.

Eboni Ross, the committed leader of the Parika Learning Pod, shares the remarkable journey of their program. Operating from Monday to Friday, the pod focuses on enhancing students’ technology and reading skills, sometimes extending sessions for weeks to ensure no child is left behind.

Since its inception, the Parika Learning Pod has positively impacted the local community. Eboni proudly states, “The support of STEMGuyana has been instrumental in helping the children become better individuals.” The program’s success is evident in the positive changes observed within the community, where numerous children have benefited from the educational support provided by the learning pod.

One of the most profound impacts has been on literacy. Eboni highlights, “I’ve received feedback from all my parents about their children who couldn’t read or call words before joining the pod.” This transformation has been a source of immense pride for the program and we are quite grateful to the IDBLab for making these opportunities available across the country..

The learning pod has garnered substantial support from the community, which has been crucial for its success. Recently, the pod honored the exceptional students Areina Persaud, Althea McLean, and Ateelah McLean, for their exceptional progress, reflecting the program’s positive influence.

Parents have been overwhelmingly supportive, expressing gratitude for the improvements in their children’s reading abilities. This feedback underscores the program’s effectiveness and the vital role it plays in the community.

Eboni Ross, a mother of two, has dedicated seven years to technology education within her community through various programs in partnership with the Department of Youth and STEMGuyana. She reflects on her journey, “I love working with the children. There is so much more I want to achieve because I believe in making a difference.” Her commitment and passion continue to drive the learning pod forward, with plans to expand and enhance the program further.

Alisha Koulen, STEMGuyana Operations Manager, adds, “Programs like the Parika Learning Pod are essential in shaping the future of our children. In addition to education, they provide a pathway to a brighter future from learners across Guyana.”

With continued support from IDBLab and STEMGuyana and the unwavering dedication of leaders like Eboni Ross, the Parika Learning Pod reflects the transformative power of community-driven education initiatives.
