The GNBS Certified Laboratory provides a range of tests in the areas of Haematology, Biochemistry, Urology, Serology and Microbiology, all of which are open to the public. Laboratory Manager, Ms. Khaimwattie Chandradatt boasted that, becoming GNBS Certified was always their intention, “The laboratory was established with one of its goals being to become certified to the GYS 170 Standard. We first started knowing we were headed down that path because you cannot think laboratory without thinking quality, and you cannot think quality without thinking GNBS.”

One of the hallmarks of Caribbean Surgery Inc., is its unwavering commitment to quality assurance and adherence to stringent standards. The laboratory operates in compliance with the GYS 170 Standard which outlines the general requirements for the operation of a laboratory. This Standard offers the steps towards developing and maintaining a thorough management system which ensures that every test conducted is accurate, reliable and precise. This commitment to excellence has earned Caribbean Surgery Inc. recognition from regulatory bodies and industry peers alike.

In January 2022, the Laboratory was first audited by the GNBS Team and officially became certified on March 21, 2022. According to Ms. Chandradatt, “working with the GNBS Team is always great; from the inception with the various trainings to all our audits. We are continually seeking to make our Laboratory Quality Management System better so any feedback that can aid that is always appreciated from the GNBS Team,” Ms. Chandradatt noted.

Beyond its technical process, Caribbean Surgery Inc. is distinguished by its unwavering focus on patient care and satisfaction. Patients can trust that their samples are handled with the utmost care and that their results are delivered promptly and accurately.

Ms. Chandradatt highlighted, “Part of our Quality Policy speaks to our commitment to Quality through conformance with the GYS 170 Standard. So being certified certainly ensures that we are fulfilling all the requirements of the Standard and thus, abiding by our policy.”

She further noted, “Certification enhances our credibility by demonstrating our compliance to the National Standard and we publicly display our certification and quality statements.  We do this as part of our Quality Process and to ensure customers are satisfied with knowing they are getting quality service and results.”

Meanwhile, Caribbean Surgery Inc. takes pride in celebrating its dedicated team of laboratory professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold the highest standards of excellence. From conducting complex tests to providing invaluable insights to healthcare providers, the laboratory professionals at Caribbean Surgery Inc. play a crucial role in enhancing patient care and advancing medical science.

“This year’s Laboratory Professionals’ Week theme is “The Lab is Everything”, and truly the lab plays one of the most crucial roles in healthcare and research. Every day we must strive for excellence and remain committed to our shared values of integrity and dependability as lab professionals. As such, to our stakeholders and customers, thank you for your continued trust and collaboration, your support enables us every day,” noted Ms. Chandradatt with a broad grin.

The GNBS encourages other testing and clinical laboratories to pursue certification to the National Standard. Certification helps these facilities to operate in agreement with established procedures that are based on the requirements of the national standard.  It also provides them with a benchmark for maintaining the laboratory management system and for improving the services offered to clients, thereby increasing clientele.

For further information on the GNBS Laboratory Certification Programme and other services, contact the GNBS on telephone numbers: 219-0069, 219-0065, 219-0062 or visit the GNBS website: www.gnbsgy.org.
